Cone Oscillator |
As the pine cone dries it opens and its extension toothpick arm presses a switch that activates a motor that squeezes a water bottle above the pine cone and gives the pine cone a shower.
The pine cone, now wet, closes up relatively quickly, and then as it dries it slowly reactivates the motor, gets another shower and the process begins over again.
A time lapse video captures the oscillations over a 7-day period.
