Spruce 1

Cross-wise sections across a spruce log (in this case a piece of standard 2" x 4" lumber) reveal how whorls of branches originate at the tree's centre. The viewer is looking at end grain, downwards through the centre of the tree. The 60 slices make up a total of 15 inches of vertical distance through the trunk.
